Natural Sable GHW Evelyne 33 Ardennes Leather Bag by Hermès

Vintage (1997)

Details

Evelyne Bertrand, former head of Hermès riding department, designed the original Evelyne in 1978. Originally, the Hermès Evelyne was intended as a carryall for horse groomers’ tools. The signature perforations that form the large ‘H’ were designed to enable airflow around the tools to keep them dry between uses and were considered to mark the bag’s back. Today, the Hermès Evelyne is prized for its minimalist style, and the utilitarian perforations are considered the decorative front of the bag.
